Flavlets for 8/31

August 31st, 2007 at 9:52 a.m.

Wow it seems like August came and went quickly and now summer is officially over (this weekend marks the official end of summer here in the US). Luckily September is probably the nicest time of the year to be in Seattle.

As we close out the week (and the summer) we leave you with these Flavlets.

Where neon goes to die. This is a great gallery of old discarded neon signs in Vegas. Something to go see when you get bored with gambling.

Kevin is a sucker for old posters and has been spending a lot of time on A Soviet Poster a Day. The site gives a good description of the purpose behind the posters and features some great work in poster design.

A nice little collection of type in motion. “Make the type taste good.”

Jeff Croft had his blog featured in Smashing Magazine’s 45 Excellent Blog Designs

Josh Catone has a great post about 10 Must Have Online Office Apps

Luke Wroblewski has a very in-depth article up on Primary and Secondary Actions in Web Forms

Get that cup of tea or coffee just right with some of these clever color matching mugs.

Garrett’s OS X app xPad was called “essential” by BestMacSoftware.org. We also heard from people at AEA Chicago that Zeldman has xPad in his dock!

Peter Merholz recently bought an original Macintosh and posted some very cool photos of the original Macintosh user manual. The descriptions of the new interactions they had to explain are wonderful, especially they way they describe scrolling.

Cameron Moll’s Mobile Web Design Book is available for purchase. Lots of good stuff in there. (But don’t forget the free Mobile Developers Guide we wrote too ;))

Brian’s 4-year old daughter PJ got a hold of Jim Ray’s Canon 30D and took over 300 photos, only a handful of them got posted to Flickr (mostly of Jeff).

Blue Flavor client China8 was featured in a recent USA Today article. You can just make out the “vor” of the Blue Flavor container under the Escalade.

With the US Open in full swing (haha! pun of the century!), check out some super-slow-mo shots of Roger Federer in action.

Joseph Smarr and the guys at Plaxo built an online identity aggregator based on the XFM Microformat. This is a nice first step in consolidation of the social graph, which will be a monumental achievement on the web, whenever it is finally achieved.

The Single Hauz is a single-person adobe with an amazing design. We can’t read what it’s all about, but the pictures definitely make us want one (or eight).

NBC has decided to pull their content from iTunes, saying they want better piracy prevention and more revenue. Brilliant move, NBC! Now everyone is going to simply steal your shows.

Bumbershoot, one of the best damn music and arts festivals in the land, is this weekend in Seattle and many of the Blue Flavor crew will be in attendance. If you’re in or around the Seattle area this weekend, you should be too.

And finally don’t forget to register for some upcoming events we will be speaking at:

Brian Fling
