New Work: Playbook (formerly Clockwork)

July 3rd, 2008 at 3:26 p.m.

I wanted to let you all know that one of our clients, Matasano Security, has launched their new web product, Playbook (formerly Clockwork).

This is particularly exciting for me, because I worked heavily on the project and had a great relationship with the team there. The Matasano team was engaged, gave quick and responsive feedback, pushed back when we needed to be corrected (we’re definitely not IT management professionals), and let us be the experts when it came to user experience and visual design. We’ve just been itching to talk about the project and are delighted that it’s now public.

So what is Playbook?

Playbook is a web-based command center for network firewalls. From a single console, Playbook allows firewall teams to search firewall rulesets, design access rules with full change tracking, and push them out to one, ten or one hundred devices with a single click.

Blue Flavor worked directly with Matasano’s internal team and did everything from interaction and visual design to web standards-based templates, and made a smooth transition with their development team as they worked on the back end.

We’re also excited to showcase yet another fantastic poster from Elliot Jay Stocks, which beautifully represents both the firewall management tool and the old name, Clockwork. Sure we’re a little bummed they changed the name, but we’re incredibly happy to have another fine piece of artwork in our collection. Thanks, Elliot!

So, if you’re looking for an easier way to handle firewall management be sure to check out Matasano’s Playbook. And if you’re curious about our role in the project, we’ve got a nice little case study up as well.
