AAOMS (American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons) came to Blue Flavor looking for a full overhaul of their site’s design. Our work included discovery, information architecture, visual design, and template development.
The project was a success for many reasons, the most notable of which included our efficient workflow, great project management, and solid relationship with the AAOMS team.
Working Efficiently
To keep our hours and work flow in check, we spent a lot of time up front, setting expectations for how we hoped the project would go. One way of doing this was to ensure everyone understood what to focus on in the visual design and discovery process. For instance, AAOMS’ site was very content-heavy, but we didn’t want them to make structural or content-oriented design choices—so we helped them understand how to focus on visual and design-based aspects of our work in their feedback.
We also knew that cultivating a solid branding message for maxillofacial surgery might be tricky, so we were sure we clearly understood all of AAOMS’ design goals in visual discovery.
Because we spent so much time getting to know AAOMS’ goals in the discovery process, we were able to nail the design on nearly the first try. This set the tone and helped us work efficiently throughout the project.
Great Project Management
In organizations like AAOMS, there often many stakeholders involved in the decision-making process — so we worked to establish a tight and thorough project management process. We think we did a great job in this respect, from our initial on-site presentation with AAOMS’ team in Chicago, to pushing the project to finish ahead of schedule.
A Solid Relationship
One of our favorite parts of working with AAOMS was their open, honest, and straightforward communication style. Their approach to the project matched ours, and enabled us to do our best work.
Education
AAOMS’ team did their due-diligence in working to understand the web design process, but they don’t have a huge in-house design/development team of their own. To ensure they understood everything about our process, we spent time explaining how each phase and deliverable would enable them to meet their business goals.
In the End
AAOMS is very happy with the work we did, and we’re happy to have worked with such a great team.
